Traverse des Sioux

Located where the big woods, tallgrass prairie, and Minnesota River meet, Traverse des Sioux was the site of an 1851 treaty between the U.S. and Dakota nations, which allowed thousands of immigrants to move into Minnesota— and set the stage for the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862.
