History Day Teacher Workshops

Teacher Workshops and Webinars

Registrants cancelling 24 hours before the workshop are eligible for a refund or credit. (This includes weather related cancellations.) Less than 24 hours notice - Registrants who are unable to attend the workshop may substitute someone to attend in their place; substitutions will be made at the registration desk the day of the event. No refunds or credits will be granted for non-attendance or cancellations. Summer Teacher Institute

Ten Minnesota educators will be selected to join History Day staff for an exciting, week-long summer institute at the Minnesota History Center and University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, June 20 – 24, 2016.This institute features a special focus on using archival resources to research and present a model History Day project. Additional sessions include information on the annual theme, History Day categories, discussion about guiding young historians through the historical research process, and tours of research facilities. The final product is a teacher-created History Day project, presented on final day of the institute. 
 
Any grade 6-12 educator is eligible to apply for the institute, including but not limited to social studies, English, communication arts, library/media and gifted/talented teachers. History Day veteran teachers as well as teachers who have not participated in History Day previously are welcome to apply!
 
Stipends and Covered Expenses 
  • All participants will receive a $500 stipend. Parking at the Minnesota Historical Society and lunch will also be covered. Copying fees will not be covered.
  • Participants coming from Greater Minnesota are eligible for reimbursement for lodging and hotel parking expenses (up to $100 per night for five nights). Travel costs will also be reimbursed for outstate participants up to $75. 
 
To Apply
Applications can be completed online. The application deadline is Friday, April 22, 2016. Successful applicants will be announced at State History Day on Sunday, May 1, 2016 and will be contact via email the following Monday.  Please contact Sarah Aschbrenner with any questions about the application or institute.
