History Day Teacher Workshops

Fall 2014 Teacher Workshops and Webinars

Registrants cancelling 24 hours before the workshop are eligible for a refund or credit. (This includes weather related cancellations.) Less than 24 hours notice - Registrants who are unable to attend the workshop may substitute someone to attend in their place; substitutions will be made at the registration desk the day of the event. No refunds or credits will be granted for non-attendance or cancellations.

WORKSHOPS

History Day 101

History Day 101 will address the fundamentals of History Day.  History Day staff will cover the program framework implementation strategies. See examples of projects, learn about support resources, and discuss standards, program benefits, and next steps to bring History Day into your classroom.  Participants will leave with a variety of classroom-ready tools to begin implementing History day in their own schools.

Leadership and Legacy in History: The 2015 National History Day Theme

The 2015 History Day theme is more complex than you think – and offers students a rich array of topic possibilities.  Take a closer look at ways to understand the theme pitfalls to avoid, and how to incorporate the theme into thesis statements and projects.  Presenters will also discuss how issues of historical context and perspective will play a key role in helping students to understand this years’ theme.

Historical Research for National History Day

Research is the foundation of strong History Day projects.  This workshop will take a closer look at historical research and discuss the approaches to guiding student researchers.  The workshop will address both online and offline research resources, developing research questions, classroom management of student research and research from the point of view of History Day competitions.
