History Day Teacher Workshops

Teacher Workshops and Webinars

Registrants cancelling 24 hours before the workshop are eligible for a refund or credit. (This includes weather related cancellations.) Less than 24 hours notice - Registrants who are unable to attend the workshop may substitute someone to attend in their place; substitutions will be made at the registration desk the day of the event. No refunds or credits will be granted for non-attendance or cancellations.

WORKSHOPS

History Day 101

History Day 101 will address the fundamentals of the History Day program. Staff will discuss the program framework and implementation strategies. See samples of projects, learn about support resources, and discuss standards, program benefits, and next steps to bring History Day into your classroom. Participants will leave with a variety of classroom-ready tools to begin implementing History Day in their own schools. Workshop fee includes breakfast, lunch, parking, and materials.

“Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History:” 2016 History Day Theme Workshop

The 2016 History Day theme can seem intimidating at first, but it actually offers students a rich array of possibilities for selecting a topic connected to their own interests. Take a closer look at ways to understand the theme, pitfalls to avoid, and how to incorporate the theme into thesis statements and projects. You will bring home topic ideas and tools to use in your classroom to address the theme with your students. Workshop fee includes breakfast, lunch, parking, and materials.

Advanced Topics in History Day

Move beyond the basics and take an in-depth look at several important elements of successful History Day projects in this workshop. Special topics for this year include project organization, research skills, bibliographies, judging, and project evaluation. Workshop fee includes breakfast, lunch, parking, and materials.

Urban Educator Conference

This one-day conference has been designed to meet the needs of teachers from Minneapolis Public Schools, St. Paul Public Schools, and teachers from highly diverse Metro-area schoolss, or schools with high levels of free and reduced lunch. Participants will receive a $100 subsidy for successful completion of the one-day conference. Parking and meals will also be provided. Large group and break-out sessions will cover a variety of topics for both the new and experienced History Day teachers. Interested educators should apply online by Wednesday, September 23. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, September 25. Attendance will be capped at no more than 40 participants, with preference going to educators from targeted school districts/areas.
