History Day Teacher Workshops

2016 Teacher Workshops and Webinars

Note: Registrants cancelling 24 hours before the workshop are eligible for a refund or credit. (This includes weather related cancellations.) Less than 24 hours notice - Registrants who are unable to attend the workshop may substitute someone to attend in their place; substitutions will be made at the registration desk the day of the event. No refunds or credits will be granted for non-attendance or cancellations. History Day 101

History Day 101 will address the fundamentals of the History Day program. Staff will discuss the program framework and implementation strategies. See samples of projects, learn about support resources, and discuss standards, program benefits, and next steps to bring History Day into your classroom. Participants will leave with a variety of classroom-ready tools to begin implementing History Day in their own schools. Workshop fee of $85 includes breakfast, lunch, parking, and materials.

Theme Exploration and Curriculum Collaboration

Be prepared to not only listen to the History Day staff talk about the theme, but get ready to share your own ideas into the discussion through collaborative activities in the morning. In the afternoon, we will shift gears to curriculum planning. Bring your calendars, rubrics, and other History Day lessons. Open discussion time will give you the opportunity to collaborate with other attendees. Workshop fee of $85 includes breakfast, lunch, parking, and materials.

Urban Educator Conference

This one-day conference has been designed to meet the needs of teachers from Minneapolis Public Schools, St. Paul Public Schools, and teachers from highly diverse Metro-area schools, or schools with high levels of free and reduced lunch. Participants will receive a $100 subsidy for successful completion of the one-day conference. Parking and meals will also be provided. Large group and break-out sessions will cover a variety of topics for both the new and experienced History Day teachers.
 
Conference date:
  • Saturday, October 29th, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Interested educators should apply online by Wednesday, October 19 by filling out this form. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, October 21 via email. Attendance will be capped at no more than 40 participants, with preference going to educators from targeted school districts/areas.  

 

History Day Project Tech: Documentaries and Websites

Don't let technology intimidate you or your students out of creating projects in these two categories! In the morning, Mr. History himself will lead the discussion on structuring History Day documentaries, and focus on the approach to use PowerPoint as a low-tech tool to create a documentary. During the afternoon, Sarah will shift to discuss website technology. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops for hands-on practice in using the NHD Website Editor. Workshop fee of $85 includes breakfast, lunch, parking, and materials.
