History Day Timeline: Parents

History Day is teacher-driven so the timeline given below may depend on your child's teacher timeline. Please ask your child or their teacher for more specifics on due dates and implementation. 

September - October. Introduction to History Day in the classroom, topic selection, and beginning research.

November - December. Research continues. Students narrow topic focus and begin to find primary sources.

December - January. Various Hullabaloo events around Minnesota to assist students with research and project organization. 

January. Students write thesis statements and begin to draft written portion of project. Continue finding images and quotes that will help illustrate the final product.

February. Final project completed. School competition takes place to determine who moves on to the Regional Competiton. 

March. Regional Events throughout the state of Minnesota. From the school competition to the regional competition, students can make changes and improvements to their projects. 

SUNDAY May 1, 2016. State Competition at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

June 12-18, 2016. National Competition at the University of Maryland at College Park.
