We are sad to report the sudden passing of History Day Outreach Specialist, Laura Zeccardi. Over the past five days, University of Minnesota physicians discovered that Laura had an undetected bone tumor that ultimately triggered a blood clot into her lungs. Laura died peacefully early Sunday morning at the U of M hospital while she was being comforted by her family.
History day students are always doing amazing things, and so are our teachers! Three History Day teachers have been nominated and are eligible for Minnesota Teacher of the Year in 2013. Congratulations to Ron Hustvedt (Salk Middle School, Elk River), David Howard (Capitol Hill Magnet School, St. Paul), and Robin Kessler (Kenwood Trail Middle School, Lakeville).
Congratulations to all State History Day students who participated in the event yesterday at the University of Minnesota. It was an amazing day, filled with hundreds of outstanding projects. More than 1,200 students attended the event, representing schools from all corners of the state. Sixty-four students were chosen to represent Minnesota at the National Competition in June.

The State Contest Guide has been posted on the State event page. If you are attending State History Day, or have a student or students attending, please take the time to read this guide. It provides important information about the day, including:
Unlike the typical science fair boards that can be purchased at office supply stores, these exhibit boards have proportional panels and more height. This creates a more balanced display of images, sources and text.
The double-thick, corrugated boards are 48 inches tall and 72 inches wide. When displayed there are 23.5 inch wide side panels and a 25 inch wide center panel. Optional title panels extend to the maximum 40 inch width allowed by History Day rules and are 10 inches tall.
