Using the principles of disciplinary literacy, this session explores explicit, specific strategies teachers can use to make primary sources accessible to students with varying skill and ability levels. Four activities will be modeled using specific primary sources using strategies to help students engage in sourcing, contextualization, corroboration, and close reading. Teachers will leave this session with four specific strategies to engage students with primary source analysis using varying levels of support. Participants will also gain experience with new primary sources, content, and be introduced to the Library of Congress website as a resource for finding more primary sources.
