1st Minnesota's general's saddle

General Charles Powell Adams used this leather saddle during the Civil War. Adams served in various civic roles throughout his life, including territorial legislator, newspaper editor, doctor, mayor of Hastings, and Minnesota state senator. He was also injured several times during his war service, receiving wounds to the arm, groin, shoulder, cheek, lung, thigh and abdomen. Although left for dead on the Gettysburg battlefield, his soldiers found him and took him to recover at the hospital. Adams was promoted to brevet-major-general for "meritorious service."
