Parade ground, Fort Snelling

The parade ground was the assembly area for soldiers at Fort Snelling. It was used for practicing drills and as a place for ceremonies and celebrations. Soldiers spent a lot of time at the fort, learning drills and commands and standing guard duty before they could fight on the battlefield. About 25,000 soldiers passed through Fort Snelling from the beginning to the end of the war.
