Sick and wounded including First Minnesota

At the Battle of Savage's Station, the First Minnesota formed part of the rear guard covering a Union retreat. Confederate soldiers pursued them, and the First Minnesota fought back. At the end of the battle, when darkness had fallen, the Union general ordered the retreat to continue. Those Minnesota soldiers who were unhurt had to leave their wounded behind. Total Minnesota casualties at Savage's Station, included wounded and killed, was 60.
