Accessible parking
- Five disability parking spots are available in the lot.
- The pathway is paved from the parking lot the the visitor center.
- Parking and directions
General
- Service dogs are welcome.
- A family restroom is available in the visitor center.
- Communication accommodations are available upon request.
- First aid kits are available. Staff is trained in first aid.
For visitors with mobility disabilities
- Five disability parking spots are available in the lot. The pathway is paved from the parking lot the the visitor center.
- The visitor center is accessible for wheelchairs.
- All parts of the guided tour are accessible for wheelchairs.
- Wheelchairs are available for visitor use.
- Ramped entrances are available into the house and fog signal building.
- The lighthouse observation deck is not accessible. There are 22 steps with a handrail to the observation deck.
- The main paths are paved. The trail to the lake is gravel.
- Seating is available along paths.
- All public restrooms are accessible.
- A family restroom is available in the visitor center.
For visitors who are blind or have low vision
- A braille visitor’s guide is available upon request from the visitor center.
- A large print visitor’s guide is available.
For visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing
- ASL interpreters are available for school groups, special programs, and events with minimum of two weeks' notice. Contact Split Rock Lighthouse at 218-226-6372 or splitrock@mnhs.org.
- All multimedia throughout the exhibits includes closed captioning
- Printed information available on site.
For visitors with sensory or communication disabilities
- A foghorn on site sounds two to three times an hour. A schedule is posted to inform guests of the day’s horn activity.
- Toilets in the restrooms are autoflush.
MNHS Statement on Accessibility
The Split Rock Lighthouse welcomes all visitors. We recognize the diverse needs of our audience and strive to offer accessible programming to enable all visitors to explore this historic site.
However, accessibility for guests with limited mobility can be challenging at our historic sites due to historic and natural features. With advance notice, we will make every effort to respond to access needs.
Our goal is to provide as much information as possible to guests before their visit to any of our sites and museums.
