Mr. Chas E. Vasaly,
Superintendent,
Minnesota State Reformatory,
Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
My dear Mr. Vasaly:-- Carl Hammerberg.
#5148
The address given in your letter of January 12th was
incorrect regarding Carl Hammerberg, #5148. We finally located Mrs. Hammerberg
as 431 N. 60th Ave West. This accounts for the delay in
answer.
Alfred, the father of Carl Hammerberg, was convicted of murder and
sentenced to life in Stillwater. He was pardoned after he had served about
fifteen years and returned to Sweden. Mrs. Hammerberg has been virtually a widow
for the past eighteen years. She has been forced to not only care for herself
but to care for her two children. She is a practical nurse but her work is not
at all steady. They pay eleven dollars a month rent. The home is neat but poorly
furnished.
Mrs. Isaacson, Carl’s sister, states that Carl has been
very good to his mother and had contributed towards her support when
necessary.
The Associated Charities have known Mandus Isaacson Carl’s
brother-in-law, since 1915. He did not support his first wife properly and their
children were made wards of the state and then given out for adoption. Mrs.
Isaacson is now pregnant but is reluctant to swear out a warrant for her
husband’s arrest.
Mrs. Isaacson is in need of assistance and we were
very glad to have the case brought to our attention. Please advise us if you
care for any further report on this case.
Yours very
truly,
C G Durgin
CGD/B Secrectary.
