Dear Sir:
I have personally inquired
into the habits of said Carl John Alfred Hammerberg and have found the above
statements to be correct. The members of the Good Templer Lodge and neighbors
have advised that he is respected, kind hearted boy and is a maintainer of the
family of which he is a part.
As to the Mother, I think she is in real need
of the boy at home. She has visited me several times and appears to be one of
these kind, faithful loving woman, who has more trouble than she can bear. Of
course the trial of the boy has caused her many worries and her daughter who has
been recently deserted by her husband returned home last fall.
The mother by
her own unselfish labors has supported by herself and

daughter and as to the daughter has now
given birth to twins. The expenses are largely increased and the mother is doing
her best to maintain the home.
I trust that the Board of Pardons will give
these statements due consideration when Carl Hammerberg case comes up for
discussion.
