Mr J J Sullivan

Dear Sir:- I wish to write you a line in regard to Mr
Dondino who is serving time for the unfortunate affair of June 15 1920 when two
or three negros (sic) was lynched. I do not approve of the acts or does any good
American citizen but it has happened and some had to suffer. I have always
believed all that was their that did not try and stop it was just as guilty as
if they had committed an act. I [illegible] our officials where right in pushing
the cases so that some one would learn a lesson that such things would not be
permitted. Now in behalf of Mr Dondino I wish to state that I have know him for
a good many years and consider
him one of the best citizens in our city—a gentleman in every
respect and a man that would not intentionally do any thing to harm anyone. Any
thing you can do in behalf of him will be appreciated by me.
I
am
Very truly
J. E. Fordwater (?)
