Transcript for Fife and Drums

Adriel, drum major and fifer: I love history and I love music and this is the perfect opportunity to put both of those passions together.

Mia, asst. drum major and fifer: The Fife and Drum Corp is a program of the Minnesota Historical Society.

Alex, drummer: The Fife and Drum Corps is meant to reenact what the Fife and Drum Corps was like back when Fort Snelling was in operation. You're bringing back that history to life.

Ron Grogg, music instructor: It's an opportunity to do something that's a bit unusual, to learn a new style of music. To learn a new instrument and then actually to be able to represent Historic Fort Snelling.

Adriel: We do duty calls and we do field shows and we play concerts and answer questions for the people who come and visit. We also do a lot of parades.

Ray, drummer and bugler: The instructors are both great. Mr. Nordin teaches Fife and Mr. Grogg teaches drum technique.

Alex: They’ve pushed us all to become better musicians.

Ron Grogg: We can play music from the Revolutionary War period all the way up to World War II.

Alex: My favorite play this experience has been being with people, being in this little community that we've created here at Fort Snelling.

Sam, parent: I feel a lot of pride that he's been involved and become quite accomplished at it and he's kind of stepped out as a leader. It feels great, it's super fun to watch.

Ray: I really love being able to perform here. You can feel the history.

Lydia, fifer: It’s an awesome experience, I've made a lot of new friends and it's just a really great way to enjoy the fort.
